The light energy is absorbed disproportionately by the concentration of pigment which forms the unwanted lesion. This selective delivery of laser energy destroys the excess pigment and fades the lesion, but remarkably leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected.
The number of treatment sessions required varies from patient to patient, but typically two to four sessions are needed.
Each session usually lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, but again will vary depending on your individual needs.
Some people feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, describing the sensation as similar to having an elastic band snapped against the skin. Ask your provider what you should expect.
You will be able to resume normal activities after each session, but you may be given specific advice, such as avoiding sun or abrasive skin cleansers on treated skin for a few days.
After the treatment, a cool compress or gel pack may be applied. If you do have any redness or swelling after treatment, this should resolve in a couple of hours. Permanent side effects are rare but should be discussed with your provider.
You should always follow specific instructions from your healthcare provider.

I could not be happier with the results of my laser skin pigmentation treatment. I had so many age spots, freckles and dark patches and they’re all gone! In three treatments my skin looks so different, and the process was painless and easy. Adele and Emma are absolutely wonderful, book in now!!
The laser produces an intense burst of light that is absorbed by the targeted abnormal blood vessel without causing damage to the surrounding tissue. All personnel in the treatment room including myself, will wear protective eye wear to prevent eye damage from the intense laser light.
The sensation from the light is uncomfortable and may feel like moderate – severe hot pinpricks or a burst of heat that lasts only a few seconds. The area may appear reddish-purple and slight swelling of the area following the treatment, the area should be treated delicately. Photographs may be taken throughout the course of the treatment.
Blistering, scarring, hypopigmentation, and hyperpigmentation are
possible risks and complications of this procedure. I understand that sun exposure and not adhering to pre and post care instructions may increase my chance of complications. I will care for the skin area(s) gently cleaning daily with gentle, antibacterial cleanser and applying a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun block SPF 30 or greater.
